LISBON-TIMOR - MACAU
The Portuguese Aviators
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Macah, Nov. 29.
Many entertainments took place during the stay of the avia- tors in Macau, until they left for Hong Kong en route to Shang- : hal, on Friday morning at 19.30 a.m., arriving in Hong Kong at about 11.40 km. after a fight around neighbouring islands. Ther left for Shanghai, via Fòochow, on Saturday 24th early in the morning in order to land at Hụngjao Aerodrome about 4 p.m. the same day but unfortunately, the weather and the prospective delay of their flight with the deviation to Sanghai, decided them to return to Macau after they were near Amoy and they landed here on the same day about 12 noon.

MORE AIR LINERS
- Four new fast transport aero- planes which will be commissioned by Imperial Airways early in 1995 are now in an advanced stage of manufacture. They are intended primarily for special charter" fights and for the operation of auxiliary services' where trafe does not justify use of large ma- chines. Two of them are mono- planes, equipped with the fashion- able retractile undercarriage; two are biplanes with fixed struts and landing wheels.
The monoplane concerned is the Avro 652 powered with two Siddeley Cheetah 270 h.p. radial engines. It is designed for the comfortable accommodation of six passengers and a crew of two: its cruising speed is 150 miles an hour and its maximum level speed 175 m.p.h The still-air range varies between 475 and 800 miles according to the apportionment of load between fuel and payload. Both craft should be ready to take the air in December. Names have been selected for them-"Avatar" and "Avalon." "#
In design the biplanes derive from the fast Boulton-Paul mail- carrier which was specially built in 1933 for the Air Ministry and proved capable of a speed, with full load on board, in the neigh- bourhood of 200 miles an hour. Flying trials of the first of the two-machines are now in pro- gress; they have shown that in maximum and cruising speeds the machine compares favourably with the speeds calculated for the Avro monoplanes. The under- carriage is fixed, but is encased in streamlined fairings of exceptional efficiency so that the parasitic "drag." or resistance to movement through the air, is small. Power is supplied by two Siddeley Jaguar' 460 hp. motors. Passengers nor- mally carried number seven, this machine the wing-loading is high; both of these characteris- low and the power-loading is.
tics suit the craft admirably for operation from very restricted areas.
Imperial Airways have chosen to cali these пет biplanes "Boadicea" and "Britomart."
and following the route suggested by Lieut. Cruz on the way to Aus- tralla for the maintenance of re- sular air lines, will increase con- siderably the safety of the voyage.
The Portuguese Government will be very soon considering the ques- tion of aviation in the colonies and the adoption of all measures at
