SAUCY FACE LOWERS RECORD SHANGHAI RACES
ELECTRIC STAR WINS
GRIFFINS CUP
Gleneagles Back To Form
(BY MORNING DEW *}
The
Saturday's racing was full of interest, and in many respects was the most successful we have had this half of the year. weather was glorious, the attendance and the betting figures were good, the course was fast, the racing clean and keen, and what is more the dividendą were generous. It is gratifying to be able to record that in the selections given in the "Dally Press" on Satur- day, four winners and fourteen placed ponies were nominated}
Electric, Star won The Grifins Cup in convincing fashion, while another pleasing feature of the day's sport was the return to form of Gleneagles, who made a field of "B" class ponies look like selling platers.
BUTLER BRINGS THE
TIGER HOME
The first "leg" of the Double went to the Tiger who was clever- ly handled by Butler. The second "leg." fell to West Parade, „who figured in one of the most exgfting falabes seen at Happy Valley for many a day.
DELIGHTFUL CHANCE In the opening race, Chesterfield, the favourite, was sent into the "lead where Bold Commander con- tested the ground with him over the first three furlongs. After that Chesterfeld looked as though ite was going to wip all by himself when Delightful Chance, who was lying third, several lengths behind, crept up on the leader. The favourite swung wide on turning Into the straight and having thus idst several lengths, Delightful Chance was enabled to come along and win easily getting the verdict by three lengths. There was a 200 tussle for third place, Bald Commander and In Good Time lighting every inch of the ground, the latter just getting the verdict.
เ
A NEW RECORD
My selection for this race, Baucy Face. I understand, caused some surprise, but the race bore out the fact that Bronze Era is by no. means in top condition and the same is true, though to a lesser extent, of Nell Gwyn. Both these ponies ran well but even six fur- longs proved too long for them.
Bobniak Star, Nell Gwyn and Faucy Face wrestled for the lead when the gate went up and for a time the "Star, candidate got the better of the argument. Then Nell Gwyn and Saucy Face passed the leader Sat the Rock and it looked as though the race was going to Це between, these two, when Bronze Era came along with a big burst of pace and looked as though he was going to take the lead into the straight. But the pony ran wide and was never dangerous in the run, horne. Meanwhile Saucy Face drew slowly ahead of Nell Gwyn. but a new, challenger in the shape of Dinty caine along. In a gruell- ing race home, Saucy Face on the rails got the verdict by a neck from Dinty with Nell Gwyn a head be hind. The last named came along with a big rush at the finish but bath Saucy Face and Dinty were running too strongly to be in donger from being beaten.
"Bobalak Star was fourth. Bronze Era Fifth and Woodland Stag, who was left at the post, last.
THE GRIFFINS CUP The more I look back on the Griffins' Cup, the more con- vinced am I that Butler mainly responsiblé
was a poor afth and Saklier of Germany a bad fast.

This was the only other lesque match played on that day.
