ROUND THE SHOPS

Tht weather has been so do- lightfully cool, this week' that it has been quite pleasant for shop | plog--and window shopping. I do a lot of the latter. for though I carnot always afford what I want to buy, I nevertheless And plenty of fun looking at the many nice things that are on view in | the local shops. One of the Arst, shops I called at was Eve's who have on display a very charming array of Itallar leather goods in the shape of embossed and tooled bags, purses and handbags. They

are rather on the expensive side but then that is only to be expected for they are really first class goods and what is even more important. every article is hand-made.

came to these far off shores. The hats with the shallow brims which look so snappy when worn at a rakish angle are there in plenty, but the best part about it all is that no two hats are alike. There was also a peach coloured dress with brown cello- phane, fringe coat while a perfect dream was a copper satin dress with coatee to match. Then there was an orange coloured crepe silk coat finished oft with browni velvet but best of all was one in silver lame with the square neck, the lines of which cannot be describ ed as anything else but beauti- ful.

Aurella's is another shop who do wonders with old hats which are cleaned and remodelled by them in an almost unbelievable marmer. LATEST GOSSIP FROM

LONDON

London, Oct. 13.

The attractions of the "Little Beason," which lasts from Octo-. ber to Christmas, will be greatly enhanced: by the wedding of Prince George and Frincess Marina.

Already hundred Mayfair drawingrooms are wanted for one of the biggest seasons of committee meetings ever known, This is because of the revival of

charity balls, of which there will be at least three a week during the "Little Season."

Society hostesses will be meet- ing every Tuesday from the end of September til Christmas. ar- ranging these functions, which will include sports balls, at which one can skate as well as dance, pageant balla, "straight" · balls, at which one only dances, and cabaret balls.

At the Kaleidoscope Ball, to be held on Dec. 11, sparring' ex- hibitions will take the place of the conventional ball.

COMMITTEE MEETING

Ir addition to the attraction of seeing famous homes, many of them historic, members of the latest type of committee meeting, after half an hour, or so of intensive work, stay on to dance a little between tea and dinner.

Several celebrated drawing- rooms will be used as committee rooms during October. These include those of a Royal resid- ence, of the Duchess of Devon- shire's house in Carlton gardens and at Admiralty House,

Committee members are also Interested to visit the homes of the young marrieds," for these represent the work of. leading. decorative artists and are full of new ideas in furnishing and colour schemes, which visitors. aubsequently borrow for their own homes!

CREATING FASHIONS

Clients will be allowed to enter. his "odel making room," where, against an all-white set- ting, the fashion creator sits at his dear playing with his sketch and studying the pattern of an exclusive fabric beside it.

He swings round to the ting stage behind him where, with the aid of a mannequin, lengths of the fabric, and two spotlights, the model is constructed under his inspection

AN ESPECIALLY BRIGHT IDEA Sleeves this autumn and win- ter will offer plenty of choice... The bishop sleeve "bas far more vogue than it had last year and looks graceful and pretty in soft materials like satin.

Bome sleeves are long and tight and some are like the old shirt sleeve with cuffs. The bishop sleeves Diake a good deal of the cuff, which gives scope for variety in shape and em- broidery.

There are Chinese sleeves with wide forearm and there are sleeves which are full above the elbow and tight below. The set- in aboulder and the scamless shoulder are about equal in popularity,

The "wireless message" hand- kerchief: has a belephone num ber embroidered in the corner. It is unbeatable for dropping by accident!

SUNSHADE FABRICS Sunshades and rainproofs are made in a variety of easily cleaned fabrics. There are silk oilskins in summer tints," and" heavier crepe de chines in white and cream and pale colours: which have boen treated so as to acquire a waterproof surface. TRIUMPHS OF THE COIFFURE

Return of Loose Waves and Curls

Hair-Dressing styles are for ever changing, and new triumphs in plastic coiffure are being evolved.

The loose wave, the swirled coil, the coquettish curl. have all come back, but in new aspects.. The way which the hair is lifted is very becoming, for the lines of the head and nape of the neck are left clear.

Short hair is cunningly swath- ed-as though it were a drapery --and the effect is to make it appear long. For day-time the sideway swirled shingle is pos sibly the easiest and neatest style. Sometimes two or three tiny curls are arranged of mas- culine cut.

Very charming are these low- back curls, especially when ada- ed to the new rolls in the centre. Another idea is for the hair" to be pulled straight back → from each side, to meet in a centre roll, with increasing curls on top.

· front and sides. ·

NEW LOOSE COATS . The new loose coats, with belt or sash, worn over tight skirts, are reminiscent of the Russian- blouse.

They are usually in bright colours, and worn with skirt and top-coat in a dark contrasting shade.
