A drop of 3/18 in the Readu rate rad 1/4 in the Forward rate, was recorded in Silver prices yesterday, the quotations being 237 and 29 7/16 respectively. Covering by speculators was the main cause for the drop but at the lower rate reached America was a buyer, the market finishing with a steady. tone, sellers apparently being re- luctant to operate. In New York the price was 521.

In New York Sterling opened at 4.96 and closed a little easier at 4.973.

Opened with sellers at 1/7 November and 1/7 13/32 December but business was soon done at 1/7 7/16 for near delivery followed by transactions at 1/7.15/32 for cash and 1/7 December and also second half November. The market closed at lunch time with sellers at 1/7 15/32 November and 1/7 Decem- ber: buyers at 1/32 higher respec- tively.

U.S. Dollars Business was done at 40 7/16 for second half November and 101 De- cember. The market closed with sellers at 402 November and 401 December, buyers probably at 40 7/18 for cash and 40 9416 Decem- ber:
