Claudette Colbert's New Gowns-

Claudette Colbert, who gives such a brilliant performance in the title role of Paramount's CLEOPATRA, confesses that when everyone began exclaiming about the new fashion trend the costumes in the film were inspir- "ing, she was still too busy work- ing on the picture to think much about it. But now that she has had time to breathe she has de- cided that there is nothing more charming than these adaptations from the Egyptians.

Travis Banton, the famous Paramount stylist, has designed an autumn evening gown for Miss Colbert which definitely follows the-lines of the CLEOPATRA mo- dels.

Created in a wonderful pansy blue, celanese satin, the gown is made with "criss-cross" panels in the skirt. Below this panelled effect a sunburst of pleating falls

to the floor and dissolves into a graceful train.

The bodice of the gown is a triac dring, but very simple.

There is a distinct" "school-girl- ish" tendency in the Arst Holly- "wood autumn fashions,"

This was clearly shown recently by Sylvia Sidney, star of Para- mount's THIRTY DAY PRINCESS, who is seen at a festaurant wear- ing a smart, youthful frock with a definite Autumn flavour.

It is simple, one-piece dress with a high, round neck shirred on a narrow ribbon which is tied with a small bow. The dress is topped by a long-sleeved bolero of the same colour and material- red and black checked sheer wool.
