Can Bronze Era Win Event?

THE MAÇÃO MEETING

BY "MORNING DEW”

SATURDAYS 'RACING"

The outstanding feature of the Coming now to the racing next meeting at Macao on Sunday was - Baturday, I think the "A" Class the success of Mr. Li Puk Fai on Delightful Chance. I have watch ed Delightful Chance's progress for some time, and felt certain that in Macao, where there is no hill to contend with, this pony would do well. Another pony hich won 'because there was no "Black Rock" in Macao was What A Chance. Mr. Botelho sent him in front and the fat course made it possible for him to keep the lead all the way round. BOXING EVE

The combination of Bob Charles and Boxing Eve was a most for midable ore at one time and I re- call occasions when these two used to account for Sitting Bull over a mile and a quarter. Box- ing Eve, however, has now gone down to the "D" Class and very soon will reach "the end of his career. It is interesting to recall that he first raced in Hong Kong at the Annual Meeting of 1928 when Sitting Bull won the Derby. Boxing Eve could not win a race at that meeting until the Off Day when Mr. Billy Hil, who was pass- ing through the Colony on his way from Australia to Shanghai hup pened to drop in at Happy Valley! and had fast enough time to ride one race. He was offered Boxing Eve, in a mile ‘ană a quarter race. He won the race by two and a half lengths! That was the be- ginning of Boxing Eve's career and he afterwards proved to be a great sprinter, holding the six fur longs record until the advent of Apollo. He is the only griffin of 1928 racing to-day.

A QUEER BET

I was informed the other day of a very unusual het. Two keen racing men. discussing the PO spects of the St. Leger joined is- que as to which pony had the best chance.. One thought that the placed ponies in the Derby (Hy- droplane, Bright View and New Star) would provide the winner, while the other thought that the

was

winner will come from Gladiator, Macaroni, Lemberg. Soldier of China, Solder of Germany, Ribble, Electric Star. King's Fancy or King's Warden. The result that an even money bet has been made between the two men, one backing the first three against the others nine. And now. I suppose. Soldier of Britain will come along and win the race!

I thing one of the best races on the card is the "C" Class event over seven furlongs. The Tiger carries only 152 pounds here and surely will start a favourite. There are a couple of good sprinters here

TEST FOR BRECHIN

The last race but one will be a test for Brechin, Gladiator will probably start earlier in the day. so that Brechin' will be left to look after Macaroni, King's Bouniy. Bright Star, Gleneagles, Don, and Oak Bay Brechin carries top weight and if he can win here he will have proved definitely that he (Wayward Stag and What A is by far the best "B" Class pony Chance) and they may account om a mile op. Bright Star is for an upset. Jungle Jim, Racing the pony I fancy at the moment, Boy, Wonderful Stag and Racing as he is in very good trim just Fluck are others likely to come in now. Gleneagles has come down The race is very open and it we to 150 pounds and at this weight, be most dimeult to try and spot he will not be easy to beat, al- the winner.
