The effect of the new autumn- fashions is first shown in details. Buch "as hats, belts, buttons, and furs.

Berets, for instance, appear to be about to be superseded for small draped, toques of panne, velvet. or flat fur, with

little wings or leathers at the side, or there is the brimmed felt hat with a crown which narrows to- wards the top, and is trimmed with a feather or quill, Le, Mon- nier does this sort of hat very well: Suzy has a black felt hat, which dips aver the brow and"" rizes at the back; the side is trimmed with a sharp grey fea- ther thrust through a suit. Her cap turban, again, has a flat top and round the edge a twisted vel- vet rope tled to butterfly 'ends at the back. In bright colours these little turbans are worn with black clothes. The liking for hats with deeper crowns than hitherto Is Intell'gible; they sit well down and resist the wind. Soft Tyro- lean hats of felt with. Feather trimmings have also appeared.

Lane Crawford's this week are making a special display of Coats In Tweeds and other New Materi als or at least so It seemed to me when I went in to their Ladies' Salon yesterday. There WIS which attracted my attention and held me spell-bound as it. wa-B ,cute red, black and white mixed tweed. It bastons across which gives a-square effect to the front of the soat. "

Autumn

The autumn dress show season in London has started. For the -next-three-weeks-or-so-those-wo- men who read about Paris dress shows and make up their minds about their autumn wardrobe in London will be busy seeing man- nequin parades every morning and afternoon. A dress that will, with a little outside help, do the work of three or four,& tailor-made evening gown sewn with conden- set milk-white paillettes, a suit quilted all over, and a material called goose feather for the good reason that goose feathers Bre largely used in its manufacture, were among the in- teresting surprises sprung by Ronald Morrel, the dress designer, in Davles Street, at his show of autumn models.

Slim Fitting Skirt

The tailored evening dress had a slim-fitting skirt with a train- all one mass of the paillettes, spread as thick as the pile of a carpet, and like a carpet they could be brushed up or smoothed down according as the wearer pre. fers a dull or a luminous surface. The short waist-length jacket of this evening sult had facings and cuffs of mole fur dyed a deep plum colour, and was worn over a high- collared blouse of orchid mauve chinon.

trimmings of "sequin and lamé are almost too easy a way of making afternoon dressed bright; there is more dignity in an 'em- broldered front yoke, a touch of ribbon at the neck, or a ribbon yoke gathered to the shoulders and tled high into a bow at the back. All buttons are ornamental of Ivory onyx, mother-of-pearl. marble, Jet, silver and g'lt metal, steel, crystal, wood, and bone, buttons and belt-fasteners are of every shape and size.
