Where The Supreme Court Might

Have Been

The Supreme Court sat in its Criminal Jurisdiction. The Ses- sions yesterday were held in the Magistracy. It seems that a year or two ago, the beam ends of the roof at the Supreme Court house were found to be rotten. Pieces of wood were let into the wall, profecting out about four feet. These have lately been bending downwards to "an alarming extent. Pieces of the ceiling were contin- ually giving way and it being quite clear that a crisis was at hand. the roof was supported with scaf- folding from the inside. It was ac- tually supposed that the

Court would be held under such circum stances, but the lawyers appear to have concluded that matters had zone far enough, and we belleve big wigs and small were unanimous for once.

The present Court house is in the noisiest part of the town, and repeatedly have the proceedings to be stopped un- til some passing noise has sub sided. We should say that the site suggested is the most desirable spot on the island for the purpose, and considering the number, o! people who live on the hill it is quite as central as the present site.

Then again in a financial point of view there would be a perman- ent revenue derived from the pre- sent building in the name of ground rent. Taking it for all in all, we never saw such a miserable
