Buver prices remained at the last quoted level of 221 for Ready and 221 for Forward. Support was given to the market by India and by speculators. China, sold. The market closed without any particular roboustness, buyers de-. ing apparently satisfied.
At the opening of the market in New York Sterling was quoted at 4.99 and closed at 4.93. »

The early part of the market was easy followed by a quiet per- lod and subsequently by steadiness. Rumours of an export tax on Sliver hy the Chinese were prevalent but subsequent advices Ddicated that no action had been taken.
Sterling
The market opened with sellers at 1/7 5/16, buyers bidding 1/71 but the buying rate soon receded to 1/7 9/32 for near with busi- ness done subsequently at -1/7. 5/18 for December and 1/7 9/32 for near. Towards lunch time the tone steadied up and 1/711/32 could have been obtamed for near, 1/79 November and 1/7 13/32 De- cember, buyers at 1/32 higher re spectively.

There were sellers after the opening at 391, buyers bidding 391 but business was soon done at 39 9/18 for near followed by transac- tions at 39 for cash. Towards 1 p.m. the market reacted and busi- ness was done at 39 9/18, 391 and 39 11/16 for near delivery. The market closed at lunch time with sellers at 39 11/16 for neàr, 391 November and 39 13/18 December, buyers at 394 cash, 393 November and 39 15/18 December.
