(Special Air Mail Service)

London, Sept. 12.

The Senate Committee which is Inquiring into the armaments trade turned its attention to-day to the affairs of the Curtiss- Wright Export Company, whose. business is to sell milltary 'planes to foreign countries.

The hearing to-day was con- ducted by Mr, Alger Hiss, who was lant by the National Recovery Administration, a fact which Is taken in some quarters as em phasising the interest which the Roosevelt Government is taking

in the inquiry.

The witnesses were Mr. John Allard, president of the Curtiss- Wright Export Company. and Mr. W. D. Webster, à former president. A confidential letter purporting to show the companya attitude towards manoeuvres to get business,

was read

The letter was from Mr. Allard

president of the Curtiss-Wright Aeropläne Company — & parent company of which the Export. "Company is a subsidiary.

* UNETHICAL BUSINESS" An unidentined man giving the Jame of Gordon Enders had applied to Mr. Burdette Wright to be appointed sales agent in China for military planes. Mr. Wright refused the request, and notifed Mr. Allard, who replied as follows:

"Dear Burdle--While I realise that the ethics of the transac- tion are very questionable," from all I gather most Chinese busi- ness is unethical and I BEN think I would like to have had a chance at the Chinese business that Enders apparently had in his hand...
