For The Daily Double

(By "Morning Dew")

The opening race meeting for the second half of the 1934 season takes place to-day and from all indications there is pro- mise of some very fine sport. The summer interval has done wonders in the case of a few backward, ponies and the qués- tion that punters will have to face this afternoon, if they have been studying training form, is whether such improved candi- dates can match those who were more successful during the first half of the year.

A

The great race to-day will be the Subs' Antuna Plate. win for Cavalcade is predicted. For the "A" Class Australian race, Babulak Star should win (If Able Amazon la not started) and for the "B" Class Australian event, Australian Boy has a dis- tinct chance.

The rest of the programme is very open, and it will not be a bit surprising it big dividends were paid out. Boxing Eve is fancied for the first leg of the "Daily Double", but the second leg is very open, The Tiger should get very near

I think Just That will get into a place, but I should not be a bit surprised if Nell Gwyn or High Finance came in. He should win to-day, but not too easily, as Soldier of Germany can be depended upon to give him a hard race all the way. Mr. Li Shiu Pang's pony can get into full strida from the start and Electric Star, to win this race, must return1.05.3 to be lowered. a very fast time. If ground condi. tions are good, the time will be under two minutes. Ribble has been responsible for some cellent track work recently, his gallop on Wednesday being ex- ceptionally good. The eighteen pounds conceded to him by Elec- tric Star will prove to be a thorn in the side of the favourite. Rib- ble, to my mind, will finish among the first three, but the pace will kill his chances, and the race is completed under two minutes, Ribble will not be the winner. I don't think punters need very much about the others. It is sufficient to say that if any of them should come in, the dividend will be very handsome.

To my mind, the best race of the day will be the five furlongs" for Australian porles, "A" Class. I understand that Able Amazon may not go to the post and that the stable will send out Bobniak Star under Mr. Butler. The field here will not be very big and so the Australian "AyersS" will be able to give a real ex- hibition of their speed. To date, we have had no real opportunity of see-running very strongly and appears ing how fast the current season's Australians can move over a short race when the going is good. To- day, we might have the opportun- ity to see it.

to be as good as ever. There is no getting away from the fact however that Copper Idol won a good many races in the first half of the year and that will be a factor in to-day's classic. I think a good ousider here is St. Ives, who will go to the post with only 148 pounds in the 'saddle. Mr. Benny Proulx is riding this
