Stocks:-There WES £ fair amount of support on the con- tinuance of inflationary rumours, We still favour the purchase of metal and commodity stocks on: any recessions. Business done. 440,000 shares.

Bonds:--High-grades and Gov- ernment issues were fractionally higher. Second-grades closed at the top price for the day..

Wheat:Hedge-sales, make the #aintenance of .advances difficult for the time being. Reports of the ilkeliness of serious frost damage in Iowa, the Western parts of the North-West and in Canada are helping the corn market in Chicago end the oats and barley markets in Winnipeg. Any additional dam- ge to the hay and forage crops. should further Increase the prices of feed grains.

Colton: Early local buyers turned sellers towards the close of the market, when hedge-offerings Increased. Sentiment among traders was more mixed.

Sterling opened at 5.061 and closed at the same rate.

Markos Steady but extremely dull

Sterling 1/8 was offered at the opening. leading to 1/6 17/32 at which rate a very small business done. The buying rate was main- tained throughout the morning at 1/6 9/15.

-U.S. Dollar Were on offer at 39, buyers bidding 39 3/16.

Business done was small for October at 394. 39.3/18 was wanted for August and September all the morning.
