Ter thousand young German girls are occupied in the Third Reich's feminine "work service." according to the first complete statistics of the women's división of
National-Socialism's greatest social innovation issued here on Saturday. The average age of the voluntary female workers"runs bei tween 19 and 21 while the majority were recruited from Germany's most highly Industrialized sections Saxony, Rhineland and Westfalls
Over 8,000 of the women's work army are engaged in assisting men in the labourers' settlements on the outskirts of large cities and in helping farmers in rural neigh- bourhoods to a higher standard of living. Outside the special twe hundred camps in which girls are remaining two-fifths assist the social service work of the National Socialist welfare association lo unemployment centres. Further groups of young women from the country neighbourhoods are quar tered with the local farmers whom they assist in return for board and lodging and a nominal payment.
The average term of work service expires at the end of twenty six weeks.
