THE MAD GENIUS

With John Barrymore

When John Barrymore first read the script of "The Mad Genlus," his latest Warner Bros. picture which will be presented at the Alhambra Theatre on Thursday next, he said it offered the kind of role that comes but once in a life- time.

Tsarakoy, the mad genius is indeed such a part-artist volup- tuary. master mind and driving force, he dominates men and wo- men by sheer force of will-berds fate to meet his needs, and con- quers all but the unconquerable human equation which eventually proves his undoing.

The story of The Mad Gentus" moves relentlessly to a tremen- dous climax built about the power- ful personality of the one man, Tsarakov. Few moments in ple- tures have been so awe-inspiring rs the few hundred teet of film of "The Mad Genius,"

Marian.Marsh heads the sup- porting cast. Others are Charles Butterworth. Donald Cook, Luis Alberal and Carmel Myers, Mich- rel Curtiz directed.

The Fix Breeder "My father reared the biggest pg in this neighbourhood." said the boastful young mari. "Aye, and the noislest," replied a listener.

Spencer Tracy At

His Best"

Spencer Tracy has finally achie- ved stardom in his latest picture

hile New York Sleeps," which opened yesterday at the King'a-l Theatre. For months Tracy has been boosted for stardom by erit- ics and fans alike. And his por trayal of the principal role in this picture was so poweriui that Win- Deld Sheenan decided to star Tracy in Fox pictures from now on.

That's a tip on the quality of the picture. Advance reports from the pre-viewers are to the effect that this is a really amazing re- velation. For the first time, it bares to the world things millions of

been men and women have wanting to know. It tells a dramatic story of the fascinating life of a man who moved from one success to another through the sporting and night life in New York during the exciting from 1910 to 1932.

Marcus Show On

The Screen

For those who have not had the opportunity of seeing the Marcus Show when they were here re- cently, the next best thing is a visit to th. Queen's Theatre now, when the various numbers of that versatile, Company were shown on

the screen.

The photography is excellent and does ample justice to the very clever items of songs and dance presented by the company, while the beautiful dress creations worn by the sixty beauties in the troupe lose nothing of their attraction on the screen.

The programme is a lengthy one and is sure to be enjoyed by all who visit the Queen's during the screening of this attraction."

The rest of the programme in- clades two clever cartoons by Walt Disney, and is as, amusing as they are clever.
