The three were near death when on June 24 the little sloop drifted to the vicinity of Fay'a Island, which is east of the Island of Yap, where they were alghted by native shermen. The latter took the thites and their bont to Fay's Island, where they were taken in charge by Japanese officials.

The vacine is obtained from the spinal cords of artificially infected monkeys. The cords were ground. up in a solution of formalin The latter, states Dr. Park, killed the virus but not the immunizing properties of the virus. The prin ciple is the same as that deviseri by Pasteur in his battle against hydrophobia

Tests were carried out on Rheus monkeys-first inoculation and then injection of the actual virus. These showed that the period of immunity lasted at least for months and probably inde-- dinitely.

Dr. Josephine Neal, Dr. H. W. Jackson, and Dr. Park then volunteered to undergo tests with the vaccine. The tests with human beings will not involve the actual administering of the virus, but instead the blood of the three physicians will be tested to deter- mine the amount of anti-bodies developed by the inoculation. The blood-tests are expected to be made in three or four weeks.......... It the blood-tests show an increase of anti-boilies, Dr. Park and his associates hope they may be able, to use the vaccine in a practical way.
