Committee Issues A Possession of Bombs Effect on Trade In

London, Aug. 17. At to-day's further meeting of the Wheat Advisory Committee in London, the subject of the sub- division of crop year quotas into quantities to be exported in each quarter of the year was under can- sideration. The Committee will

continue discussion of the subject

to-morrow.

The Committee was informed that statements have appeared in the press in the United States, Canada and Argentine purporting to record a decision of the com- mittee as to reallocation of quot- as for the crop year 1934/35. The

It is learned from a usually re- llable source that three," German Nazis were arrested in Rome a few days ago and found to possess bombs,

It is thought that they intended the bombs for use in a campaign of terrorism in Italy.

The Italian attitude on the Aus-

trian question, it is pointed, out, has caused great irritation in Ger- many, and it is rumoured that an extremists association has been formed for the purpose of "teach ing Italy a lesson."-- Reuter.

Garrels promptly offered telegraph to friends and relatives in the United States and money from them, but Titlow re- plied that no such friends or re- latives existed.

Meanwhile, in Pelew, Titlow told a story of starvation and possible death at sea. He recounted how his party had managed to reach Fays Island, near Yap, several weeks ago, In their tiny craft. after an adventurous voyage from California:

He said they left Banta Barbara on February 4 in a seven-ton sloop, with an auxillary engine, reached San Diego and on March 12 head- ed for Honolulu. more than 2,000) miles distant.

1:

Between May 5 and May 7, Tit- low related, they encountered seven heavy squalls and their boat was dismasted, requiring a week for re- pairs with the few facilities they had.

Deciding they could not reach Honolulu, they followed a more southerly course and lost their bearings competely after wander- ing for 10 days. For 50 days they merely, drifted, hopeful that a ship would rescue them Their rations, which were suficient for two months, were completely exhaust- ed and the last 10 days they were: completely without food.

The three were near death when on June 24 the little sloop drifted to the vicinity of Fay'a Island, which is east of the Island of Yap, where they were alghted by native shermen. The latter took the thites and their bont to Fay's Island, where they were taken in charge by Japanese officials.

The vacine is obtained from the spinal cords of artificially infected monkeys. The cords were ground. up in a solution of formalin The latter, states Dr. Park, killed the virus but not the immunizing properties of the virus. The prin ciple is the same as that deviseri by Pasteur in his battle against hydrophobia

Tests were carried out on Rheus monkeys-first inoculation and then injection of the actual virus. These showed that the period of immunity lasted at least for months and probably inde-- dinitely.

Dr. Josephine Neal, Dr. H. W. Jackson, and Dr. Park then volunteered to undergo tests with the vaccine. The tests with human beings will not involve the actual administering of the virus, but instead the blood of the three physicians will be tested to deter- mine the amount of anti-bodies developed by the inoculation. The blood-tests are expected to be made in three or four weeks.......... It the blood-tests show an increase of anti-boilies, Dr. Park and his associates hope they may be able, to use the vaccine in a practical way.
