$50,000 FOR ASYLUM AT
MINGHONG
Council Grant Made For Share Of Facilities
Shanghal July 31, The Shanghal Municipal Council at its meeting on July 25 further considered, an application for a contribution towards building an asylum for the insane at Minghorig, which institution will receive pati- ents from the three Municipal areas in Shanghai
A few
months ago the Council approved in principal financial support being afforded the asylum building scheme. The Treasurer and Controller now recommended a capital grant for 1934 of 850,000, consideration to be given at a later date to the matter of giving further financial support.
Mr. Lo Pa-hong, who made the application on behalf of the asy- fum informed the Council that the Chinese Municipality had definitely Authorized an appropriation of $100,000 towards the building and he contemplated receiving a con- tribution from the French Munic!–.. pality.
Replying to the Chairman, the Commissioner of Public Health stated that he considered it advis- able, in consideration of the Coun- cil making a contribution, for it to require a lien or, a number of beds for the accommodation of cases from the Settlement. He did not anticipate that any difficulty would be put in the way of his laspecting the building.
After discussion, it was resolved that subject to a lien on a number of beds for the accommodation of Settlement cases, the right of in- spection by the Commissioner of Public Health, evidence being 'pro- duced that bullding operations are progressing satisfactorily, and to an Assurance that the stated contribu- tions are obtained from the two neighbouring municipalities, -2 building grant of $50,000 for 1934 be authorized, consideration to be given at a later date to a further contribution not exceeding $50,000.
