Dutch Historian To Search For Traces Old Civilisation

An important expedition, which is likely to open many hither- to closed pages of the pre-history of Malaya, is to start to-day. headed by Professor Van Stein"Callenfels, the eminent Dutch ar- chaeologist and pre-historian.

Professor Callenfels has, beeh making preparations for this expendition, the object of which is to discover traces of the stone age civilisation at the shell heap 10 miles from the mouth of the Sungei Moda which was spotted as 1860 by a Mr. Earl, the Resident Councillor of Penang.

At the time of his discovery,Mr. Earl collected a human ske- leton from this shell heap and sent it to London where Pro- fessor Huxley identified it as belonging to the Australo-Melane- sold race who, according to pre-historic researches in the neigh- bouring countries, migrated from French "Indo-China to New Guinea, Australia and Melanesia.
