LADIES' SALON.

HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, FRIDAY, JULY 20, 1934.

ROUND THE SHOPS

HOME FOR "READY-MADES "

Eunice's salon in the Peninsula Arcade does seem the One' plate

town where a ready-made! can be bought and altered to f really well. In fact Eunice alters her gowns so thoroughly that no one would even dream that it was rict a made to order gown.

Eunice's ready-mades are most reasonably priced and it's worth so much to know that it will not be necessary to go tramp- ing up dirty Chinese streets in quest of a tailor to alter a dress, which in nine cases out of ten. results in its ruination. It doesn't take long to see that there is no Cconomy in that procedure.

I noticed on my last visit to Punice a very pretty model in white organdle with red spots and heavily trilled skirt hem and sleeves at the shoulders marked at only $25. There were many others similarly priced and all quite different in style and cut all designed to ft, and embodying workmanship that would ensure their doing stole service and not falling to pieces after being wor seven or eight times.

MORE GLOVES

Crawford-More gloves this week and such smarter ones too Really the best I've seen for a long time, in Pique Volle with the gaunlet cuffs and the gaunlets are edged with organdle. They also have then in silk which are very neat tou being finished off with 3 peart buttons of fairly good size.

Then there are other styles in very fine net finished with lace cuffs and these are to be had in bulge. The ones with the spotted slik, gaunlets are very striking.

'KIDDIES' FROCKS!

Mayoa-Have quite a number of ready made-in-expensive straws, fn just now, and they are very popular too as the prices are very moderate. Also they have just received a new shipment of kid- dies frocks.

HONEY-COMB DESIGNS

Maizees is probably the only shop in town that carries all American goods and has the ad- vantage of being able to get a fortnightly. shipment of new

goods.

This week they have received some exquisite washable evening dresses in the new honey-comb design material. All these models are in delightful pale shades with darling little taffeta coats. Brown with pale pink white with black. and such combinations as these, If you were to see these smart washing evenings, its a sure sale for Maizees

Floral Pareos, Sarongs And PARIS FASHIONS

Sea Shells

Pareos, sarongs, sea-shells and garlands of flowers are the very last words for sun-lounging styles on fashionable beaches.

to

This latest contribution summer beach clothes was stag- ed in the Museum of Ethnology at the Trocadero in Paris by Mr. Jacques Heim. The maidens who wore these garments conjured up visions of Tahiti.

In bringing the parso into faa- blog for the Lidó- and Riviera, tht. Paris fashion creator has given it a subtle différence. 'Through a cleverly deviced cut and a drape moulding the body brassiere swathes of the same

fabric are introduced. These are held in position by braidings of rafia or strings of sea-shells- which may be apeated round the ankles above bare feet on specially constructed sandals.

Add to this silhouette, with its jaunty half-length coats, is a garland of flowers as headdress. The effect is frankly charming and flowers might be real or ati- feial

This is a distinct sun-basking. hot sea-bathing debut and meant to give full-quota-sun-bake

without merely going "beach-rus- tic on the sands in an ordinary swim suit. Oddly enough, you will look more "dressed-up." May- be the picturesque note tends to an l'impression.

Ankle-length, sarongs cover pa- reos with lesser draped" effects than those worn under jaunty coats. That latter usually incline to floral printed cottons and fine linens that have a special Tabl-- tian quality. In primitive colours, sunset-red shades on white, or sea-green and sky-blue with a dash of pink and perhaps a ya- gue distribution of black.

Talking of black for this sum- mer beach wear, it figures in a linen ground for a pattern of white birds through pares and brassiere beneath a plain blöck linen coat and a great coolie hat of glistering black straw,

The only other, contrast from white on black is in shoulder strap of bright, red raffla, These large straw hats are destined for the former styles when" ankle lengths have a centre front or side split wrapping over in a draped movement on to one hip. The style is statuesque in effect and looks perfect when dark brown tussore appears without any other contrast except gold rings looping shoulder straps on to brassiere and a natural beige coolle hat. This is plaited. in, characteristic "native" fashion from straw that resembles co- coanut or pineapple fibre.

Different types of models will swell the side in beach wear and lounging styles this. gummer." Apart from exercising in swim- sait "and" rompers, the cult will develop for pareos in floral cot- ton and linen prints like the mo del that conjures up vions of" Tahiti

with scarves of different colours are sold by Anny Blatt. These clothes are as shapely and prac- tiçal as tweeds. Bright or dull in colour, they are easy to pack and wear.

Preparing For The Seaside

London, July 4...

The Grand Prix brings with it the beginning of the exodus from the capital. The velvet hats, blouses, and coats worn at Long- champ may appear again at Deauville.

The few advance fashions seen at Longchamp, Bagatelle, and elsewhere paint to velvet in mil- linery and satin in afternoon and evening dresses. It is clear too. that the length of afternoon skirts la to be midway between knee and ankle. The longer skirt is neither practical nor becoming. Mainbocker has experimented on very long dresses, but they have not succeeded as well as the shor- ter printed crêpes.

Velvet and feathers combined in millinery are Ukely to con- tinue. Reboux reduces ostrich feathers to fatness by the use of glycerine. Maria Guy -twists Paradise plumes to make a band round the base of a low crown. Pancake berets are trimmed with aigrettes laid flat. Bright felts make large hats for Deauville. Le. Monnier, is making some big felt and velvet hats for Deauville and the Riviera. All small hats are lifted at the back. Brims of smaller hats may be twisted and doubled back to give an irregular line.

At the moment printed cottons are being bought for the beach and for the evening. To the fold over, buttoned skirts of striped

and coloured cotton, top jackets, .op fitting wraps may be added. Large beach hats of rama, plait- ed straw, or cotton are common. Beach styles, like others, are austere.

An experiment now receiving

attention is a little village shop on the left bank of the Seine,, where fishermen's jerseys adapt ed to slim figures and peasants' coarse straw hats are sold. There are white duck shorts, skirts, and tallored jackets to go with striped" cotton pullovers: rustic-looking cotton prints with patterns of 'bouts, fishes, and animals; long coats of brightly striped cottons with cord belts: black linen dresses with bright belts and hats to match. An apple-green wool- len dress has a natural linen overcoat. A sapphire-blue wool- len dress is worn with red shoes, The idea is that at the seaside colours should be strong and clear.
