THE EXCHANGE MARKET

MESSRS. ROZA BROS. REPORT

A drop of 1/2 was recorded in Silver prices yesterday, Ready to 20 11/16 and Forward to.2013/16. Business was not large. China and speculative sales were supported by America and also for account of the Bazaars. The market was reported as steady but quiet at the close. The market in New York was closed.

The cross-rate was quoted in London at 5.08 1/16.

Was indicated at 1/8 31/32 sell- ers, 1/6 1/32 buyers at the open- ing. the market apparently taking no interest. in the "middle rate of 16. Business was put through for August at 1/6 1/32 and later "at 16 1/16 for the same delivery. For cash the buying rate was main- tained for a long while at 1/16 1/32 whilst August delivery at 1/6 1/18 was obtainable. 1/6 1/32 was finally done for cash, the market closing with likely sellers at that rate and buyers at 1/6 1/16 for July.

London, June 20. Miss Joan Meakin the British girl glider, broke the loop record on Saturday at the Bristol Airport at Whitchurch. The record of 15 Veloops was held by Frau Hanna Riche, the German glider, but Miss Meakin beat this with Joops.

KIDNAPPERS' VICTIM ENGAGED

London, June 20. The engagement was announced Saturday of Mr. Charles Corkran, who, with Mrs Muriel Pawley, was held captive by Chin ese bandita for six weeks after being kidnapped at Newchwang Isco coures in September, 1982. Mr. Corkran the elder sou of Major Gen. Sir Charles and Indy Corkran,

and the late Mrs. Payne Smith, of Coléherne-court, 8.W.

Mr. Corkra and Mr. Fawley were seized while out riding in Manchuria. During the time they were held prisoners in the briganda' lair, with their fate in the balancë, the indignation and concern of the whole world was aroused.

When they were released, after enduring great hardships, it was stated that the price paid for 130,000 yen their ransom was (£13,000 at par), 250 pounds of opium, had a supply of winter clothing...

Mrs. Pawley was 18 at the time of the adventure, and had been married only three month. Mr. Corkran, who is an old Welling
