The market seems to have turn- ed its attention to the lower-priced shares, and there was a keen de- mand this morning for. Hotels. China Lights and Cements. In the case of China Lights specially, there does not seem to be an over- supply of shares, and buyers are prepared to bid even higher than the officially quoted rate.

In the Utilities section, Trams and Telephones show some Arm- ness, but in other sections con- ditions were quiet.

"Berlin, July 3. Although the stock of gold and foreign currencies serving as note

Reichsbank cover held by the shows a slight increase according to the return dated June 30, the 2.0 per ratio cover declined to cent. on that date by comparison with 2.3 per cent, on June 23 and 29 on June 15. The reason for this decline of percentage in the cover was the heavy increase of note issue by 378.9 million marks to 3776.7 million Reichsmarks.

Silver prices moved down yester- day in London after a long inter- val, prices were 3/16" lower at 20 13/16 for Ready and 20 15/18 for Forward Indian operations were on both sides of the market but on balance the Bazaars bought absorbing sales for account of the Continent and speculators. The market was more or less neglected after prices were fixed but the out- look was steady. In New York the price was steady at 47 cents.

At the opening of the market in New York Sterling was quoted at 15.05 38, closing at 5.06 1/9.

The tone was somewhat hesitant at the opening in view of the Sterling quotation from Shanghai,

which was lower than expected, but rates firmed up later, easing off to some extent, however, sub- sequently.
