LADIES' SALON.

It also spoils one's feet which is even worse.

Lane, Crawford's have some ex- tremely smart foot wear, especially their white kids, These shoes are not only smart. looking but very reasonably priced at $19.50 .only this style has the perforated front with a nice high heel. In another the front of the shoe is of white stitching.

Both these models are extremely comfortable and I would highly #recommend them. Then they have several other styles in white buck- skih, trimmed with black in one style and brown in another. The blue sandal shoe that was on dis- play was also very attractive and I would say they look cool as well as comfortable.

Then there are the beach sand- als which are priced at "54.75 and pre in many shades.

NICE HATS

Maizee's Has the nicest ship- ment of hats that I have seen for a long time, in straws, fabrics, and light weight felts and there are some of the darker tones, that would wear right into the next season. as they are absolutely the latest in style. Their silk suits are the last word in smartness and wearing service, as the materials are so good. Most of them are washable and the coats which does not cost any more, should prove.. most useful, especially when it gets cooler again and also for chilly evenings. So if you ·åre really interested in silk suits. Mazees would be the place to pay a call and I am sure you will not leave without one of Maizees Sults" with a swagger coat which is always useful and Smart Looking

BLOOMTM

(Special Air Mail Service)

London, June 6. Summery frocks and hats worn by 1934 London debutantes point to the fact that fashion creators have."tuned i" their designs for this season to the colours of flo- wers now rioting in meadow, wood and garden.

-The effect of flowers, on fashion is remarkable. Field flowers and orchard blossom, and 'the highly cultivated garden blooms have all been brought into play by pre- sent-day designers of fabrics. There are patterns in all-over printed silks that might well have been inspired by sunshine playing on the scattered pink petals of a late cherry tree carpeting the fresh green of orchard grass.

There are other, heavier crepe de Chines printed in brilliant col- ours on a dark back ground in or- dered patterns that might have been evolved from a vision of a bed of tulips in the park. "

One sees the blue of the iris and paler forget-me-not, the golden gleam of the marski marigold, the queer pale green off white of the hedgerow wild parsley in the hew colourings of the popular linen tweeds.

Organdle is a flower-like fab- ric in itself. Here one finds many of the dainty flower colours, and the delicate tints of wild roses, "the deeper tones of the roses of June are often brought into the embroideries which are used" to " adorn this material.

The general trend of these flo- wer designs in all kinds of dress fabrics is interesting. There is no niggardly touch about these back to-Nature materials. They are as lavish as Nature Itself in colours and orderly design. Patterns are, free and flowing, with glimpses of cleverly contrasted background- here and there.

Printed chizons, crepes, satins show the flower influence. Ric- her brocades are designed on the same lines with interwoven gold or sliver threads. There are softly Anished, lightly woven summer tweeds in flower' tints. Knitting and crochet wools for

and get utterly sophisticated- how are they rchived?

Well, here is the secret, of curls, or perhaps I should say "Bec- rets, for there is more than one important factor in the mystery of curls on heads that Nature bestowed with only the lankest

locks.

woman The first step for the who wisher to wear her hair in curls a to have it cut with that" end in view-by an expert.

If she has long hair she must explain to the hairdresser that she wants It to be cut

for curling" He will then reduce It in length to about three inches from the hair-line at the neck. Next he will tɛkė smail sections and taper them to lengths var- ying from one to three, inches, This will provide uneven ends that will curl naturally, or arți- Bcially as the case may be.

If the hair la aready chört it must be grown to the desired length-three inches and then "cut for curling." Those magic words are really the main..secret of a successfully curly coiffure

In the same way, you should explain your purpose when you are having your hair perma- nently waved. The hair will then be baked a little longer, at the erds than on top. This will make the ends tightly waved, while the top falls in soft undulations.

Wash and Waye

A really first-class permanent wave is essential for a successful head of curls,

After a permanent wave, the hair should be shampooed and set again within a week. If there is considerable dryness, a nightly massage with a Hittle warm almond oil is helpful.

"The Ascot Brim Hats for Ascot are made of black lace or chalk white straw with very wide brims. and little pot crowns that are shorter than ever; in fact, they just sit on the head. but it is' amazing how comfortably. Even without the elastic grip they seem to perch safely, and look very smart.

The white straw brim with a black lace crown has a short black lace border dipping 21- a short depth all round the edge of the brim.

Mode for Tall Women. Tall wo- men look their best in the tunic of cut-to-the-knee-length.. It is a coarming means of introducing colour contrast into practical and pleasing, street ensemules. Very new models have the long three- quarter length coat and a slim skirt in navy or black wool and silk fabric. This is worn with" a long tunic blouse which can be the. as decorative and gay as wearer desires. Apart from a glimpse of bold bows and crovat and a fastastic under-cuff the street suit reveals Little of the variety of colour beneath, but this can be picked up again in a char- minig multi-coloured hath, with a dainty brim and possibly a crown of flower and feather of gay hue to match the tunic blouse.

The dressmakers insist on bows -bows of such dimensions that they almost conceal the "neck, the shoulders, or the decollete. This fashionable trimming can be ar ranzed in many effective ways on rock or blouse, and lends itself In particular to the taffeta vo- gue of the moment.Talking taffeta, taffeta coats, short or long, are, undoubtedly playing an important part in fashion to bri- gnt colours or white, they also ap-' pear in the evening. The best mo- dels, however, though feminine and picturesque, are by no means ex- aggerated. This is fortunate, as taffeta, directly it assumes somewhat dressy air, is apt to te ageing, as, indeed, is the case with all modes that stress more
