WOMEN DRESS BEST

By Using Instinct

Instinct is a woman's best guide. in buying clothes, according - to Kay Francis. admittedly, the best dressed' actress on the screen.

"Never buy anything unless you are positive It Ats your type" is her advice to women who would be smartly dressed "D have lew rules about what I wear and what

THE STRAW BOATER

The quaint boater-family are wonderfully useful shapes to com-"" plete the more practical suits, and look especially well worn with the 'cloth capes.

A couple of bands of 'ribbor round a straw boater finishing with a gay pasy of field flowers is an easy-to-wear trimming. The slightly higher-crowned 18th. century models. inished with a brimi in contrasting colour and a spray of flowers or ribbon-work, can be most becoming. Some- times a double brim is good for a medium-sized shape, many of which place the front part sight- ly higher. putting small flowers between the two brims. and so just suggesting the halo ment.

I will not wear, but as soon as I put on a dress, I know Instinctive- ly whether it is my dress or not.

She adds a note of caution to

women whose instinct" may be for bizarre raiment.

"Never attempt the exotic," she says. "Fantastic, extreme effects may attract attention, but if you wish to be called truly smart, it isn't the kind of attention you want."

Miss Francis personally super- vised the selection and making of the striking costumes she wears in her latest First National plc- ture "Wonder Bar."

Thin women (says Kay Francis) should never wear anything which exposes neck and arms or anything with horizontal stripes, Their clothes should hang loose und not conform to the figure. They must scrupulously avoid clothes which cling to them.

On the other hand their stou- ter sisters should not by any means wear circular patterns though the stripped patterns for- bidden to the thin girls are very desirable for-" the

more heavily. avoirdupoised Ruffles are DS undesirable for this type of woman as bathing sults in the snow. And further- more, you who wish to appear syiphlike, don't ever wear high necked gowns which, call atten- tion to the size of your face.

'Any woman of any size can dress attractively if she dresses according to her figure." Miss Francis says, "I have always stu- died my figure and always and, time to design my own clothes."

In "Wonder Bar" she wears a white beaded evening gown creat- ed by Orry-Keily, and acclaimed as one of his most beautiful creations.

There is, too, rrinted kid, that looks well with printed frocks of the same hues.

Court shoes are reappearing with the old-fashioned steel buckle and there are toeléss sandals. The very open strapped sandal, however, has had its day, for women have discovered that the lack of support causes the foot to spread.
