As serious consideration must be given to the acquisition of further tonnage, in order to maintain the Company's position on the China Coast, and in view of the Increasing competition and difficulties which have to be contended with, the Consulting Com- mittee and General Managers of the Douglas Steamship Co. Ltd., considered that it would not have been prudent to recommend the declaration of a dividend for the year under review.

Such was the nature of the statement made by Mr. S. T Williamson, Chairman of he Board of Directors of the Douglas Steamship Co. Ltd., at the fifty-first annual general meeting held at the offices of the Company.

Mr. S. T. Williamson was in the Chair and was supported by the Hon, Sir William Shenton and the Hon. Mr. C, G. S. Mackle (members of the Consulting Committee and Mr. C. L. Farmer, Secretary.

The following shareholders were also present: Messrs. N. V. A. Croucher, T, Ramsay, Wong Ping-sum and Chan Wong-ken.
