Reflections On The Fourth Extra Meeting
(BY MORNING DEW"}
Those who had any doubt before Saturday as to whether or not Soldier of Britain is one of the nest China ponies in the Colony, must have had that doubt entirely removed after the pony's success In the Mount Parker Handicap, where he registered 156.3 for a muile. Incidentally, as luck, would have it that was the only winner which Mr. Deitz rode during the afternoon: Soldier of Britain will certainly and a good many sup- porters when he starts against Diana Bag or Trentbridge this season and I would not at this stage to predict what is likely to happen. Trentbridge has got the best Bnish of the three at present.

jockey to allow in front when en,! tering the straight, for whenever he has the lead, it seems that he is able to keep it. His recent suc- cess with Dancing Butterfly, and with Spinaway, when he led into the straight, seems to strengthen this opinion. Of all the novices who have qualified in recent years, none has shown so much improve-

Not a few people were asking if Mr. 8. A. Judah from Shanghai was going to ride last Saturday, Actually, as I understand the post- Lion, Mr. Judah intended to ride, but his, accident" on Sporting Life turned out to be worse than it

Congratulations to Mr. D. Black for passing out of the novices class on Saturday. He rode a fine race on In Good Time and very de- servedly won. As a matter of fact. Soldier of "Germany's who led most of the way registered 2.00.3 for the first mile. A fact worth remembering for the future.
Talking of Mr. Soares' success reminds me that his other can- didate, Sadko came into the plc- ture again during the past meet- ing. There were many who felt, before Saturday that Sadko had seen his best days, but they were obviously mistaken, for Sadko got within a length and a half of Soldier of Britain, who registered

With Mr. Black passing out of the novices class, it will be difficult for punters to decide which is the best novice. Mr. Choy Wing Hay is quite resilable, and it will not be surprising to see him do very well Mr. Yue Shop Wab has been rid ing now for a good number of yeare and may not take long to qualify. Tang Man Wab has ac- counted for two big, dividends in two, consecutive meetings with Little Beauty and Chow Fan. He is a budding novice and his keen- ness may ultimately lead him to pass out of the ranks of beginners before any of his colleagues.

Mr. E. O. Butler is undoubtedly one of the best jockeys we have for Australian ponies. His success on Bobniak Star was the result of a bit of good riding, as although the pony led at the start, he was passed in the middle of the race by Mr. Delts on Just That. Mr. Butler however, was not beaten, and after giving his mount a breather, came on again. He won in 1.18.3, with the first half mile
I am told on good authority, that the $1 Cash Sweep, of the Hong Kong Jockey Club which will be drawn for in June have gone very well lately and that more than 40,000 tickets have been sold There is still another month to go: before the race is due to be run and it looks very mitRENCE UN greater proportion of these tickets: will be taken up, which will mean a neat little packet for someone in June Have you bought ' your ticket?
The second extra race meeting of the Macão Jockey Club takes place on Sunday week and from all accounts things are going to be much better at the coming meet- ing. The racing at the first extrà meeting was quite good and the exceptionally welcome dividends will not be easily forgotten. The prospects of big dividends Will surely attract more people to Macao this time. Incidentally, “1 think the "pari-mutuel will be far. more popular if tickets were sold at $2 Instead of $5.11.2
Regarding the times, I am sure readers will appreciate the time of every quarter being recorded in
