The Countess of Inchcape, form- érly Miss Leonora Bropte, eldest daughter of Sir Charles Brooke, Raja of Sarawak. gave birth to a son in a West-end nursing home last night. Mother and son were reported to be very well. The child weighed 7lb 3oz.

Lady Inchcape, who is 23; was married to Lord Inchcape in the spring of last year. Their home is at Culross Street, Park-lane.

Lord Inchcape, who is aged 45, succeeded to his father, the first Bari, in 1932. He was first married to Joan, youngest daughter of Hon. J. F. Moriarty, Lord Justice of AP- peal in Ireland, by whom he had three sons and one daughter. The marriage was dissolved in 1931,

The Japanese Embassy states that it has had its attention drawn to an, article which appeared in a London daily newspaper on March 22. This article alleged that the construction of a canal in the Isthmus of Kra, 60 miles north of Singapore, is being contemplated. The Isthmus iš Slamese territory, but the article alleged that Japan is preparing to finance the enterprise.

These statements have no foundation whatever, and the spokesman of the Japanese Foreign Office has officially and categori cally denied their veracity.
