Britain's Anancial year ended 'to- night with a net surplus of revenue over
£31,147,860. expenditure of This remarkable and satisfactory figure is reached after allowance has been made for payments in respect of war debt to the United States of £3,301,382 and for £7.- 749,868 set aside for the new sink- ing fund. The Chancellor of Ex- cheque, in last year's Budget, anticipated a surplus of only £1.- 300,000 without making any pro- vision for payment of statutory sinking funds or for any payment to the United States. He had! anticipated à revenue of £898,800.- 000 and expenditure of £697,500,000, Returns issued to-night show re- venue amounts to £724,567,149 and expenditure, including as stated war debt and sinking fund, £893,- 419,289.
