DAY'S PROSPECTS

BRONZE

FOR

ERA FANCIED AUSTRALIAN SPRINT EVENT

(BY “ MORNING DEW,,)

The programme of Easter racing commences to-morrow with eleven races on the card at Happy Vallero all accounts it would seem that s very good day's sport let ahead and it can only be the hope of the racing community Ah the weather will not play any tricks at the last moment. On 5 good fast course, recards will probably be lowered to-morrow

The most interesting race in the five furlongs sprint for Aus- tralian ponies. Bronze Era and Able Amazon are meeting again. to settle old scores and I think, in view of the short distance, that Brunze Era will be more likely to win than Abie Amazon.

Hydroplane will be seen racing to-day and is fancied for the" second race. It will be interesting to see how this pony figures on a dry track

The race for unsuccessful subscription "ghlin's is extremely open, while the Daily Doubles is likely to pay out a handsome älvídend.

CAVALCADE HAS DIFFICULT TASK

MEETING

make a big race of it and should between the put up a race that will lower the record. Nell Gwyn fa in at 156 pounds and to many this ponyppears to have a sport- ing cha of upsetting the Tavourites from

For the opening event, it is more | Bag Tor. These three are sure to than probable that the griffins will abstainin order to try their strength against Hydroplane in the second. I don't like the weight that Navy Hall is being asked to carry and for that reason must Hook elsewhere for the winner. Blue Star at 161, lbs. has a reason-On the rformances of these able chance or carrying of the roller wane past, I should pick honours and "on paper appears to

Bronze Era for a win with Able be a very sound proposition. The Amazon next and Alacrity or Nell Kong Bros candidates here are Gwyn to fill third place.. Electrle Star, and New Star, and the latter may start, in which case he has a sporting chance of getting among the placings. Valorous is down to as little as 148 pounds and if this pony is ever going to win at the Easter Meeting he wil have his biggest chance to-morrow. Flying Tourist at 156 pounds is a good outsider to back here.

HYDROPLANE'S HOPE

The second race on the card for gritins of this season has drawn both Hydroplane and Bright View, who finished, it will be remember- ed, first and second in the Derby, respectively. These two ponies will command all the betting, I dare- say. but informed circles feel that the stoutest opposition will be offered by Butler on Electric Star and Deltz on "Soldier, of China. Hydroplane will go to the post with Proulx on the saddle, and Bright View with Laing Other starters will include Sporting Life (Pan) and King's Worthy (Mr. Heard),

If the track is dry this should be a good race indeed, but if the going is wet, Hydroplane will be hard to beat. I think I am"satg in saying that in any case Electric Elar will get very close and that Soldier of China will not be far behind.

FATSHAN. HANDICAP - The race for "C" Class pontes other than grimas is a very open one and I shall be very surprised if the betting is not evenly dis- tributed. On past performances, I think Jungle Jim has justifiably been given top weight but in spite of this he will be dangerous. Tullcum at 148 pounds looks to be the best thing after Jungle Jim, while Mike (158), Royal Flush (149) and Street singer are all Ukely to get among the places.

rl

UNSUCCESSFUL GRIFFINS

for griffins which have won less The Shameen Stakes over a mile than $200 in stakes is a most in-. teresting one and looking over the entries it is difficult to say which particular one has any more. claim than any other. The Redshank on

his recent training form, should get very near, but this pony has not, it would seem, any stamina at all and while I would not be surprised to see him win, equally I would not be suprised to see him - un-- placed. West Parade is not a bad one with Mr. Heard riding may account for this event. William Osler has a good outside chance here and the same true of Spinaway if started. For a real long shot, Rose Leaf is not bad at all

CAVALCADE AGAIN?

AUSTRALIAN'S SPRINT the big sprint event for Aus- trullan ponies will be worth goingTiny Star and Cavalcade Carry a long way to see since they are top weight in this race and al- all about equally matched. Bronze though these two pontes have been Era carries top weight with 102 very successful at the annual meet pounds, conceding two pounds to Ing it is doubtful whether they Able Amazon and, three pounds to will be able to give away so much

handicap and win. Tiny Star, may find the distance too short for him. Cavalcade will find plenty of opposition from Classic Hall to whom he is conceding two pounds and from Surprise who is running at 163. Dancing Butterfly is in this race and being over six`fur- longs there will be quite a few who. will back him. In Good Time, with 155 pounds on the saddle also has a sporting chance here and so has chesterfield at 145, I think on the whole Cavalcade will· Just about win with Surprise and' Classic Hall Alling the other places

SOLDIER OF BRITAIN

In spite of so many good spri ters having been entered for the five, furlongs I still think "Baldler. of Britain will prove to be the best of them all. Hetman and King's

Bounty are capable of giving him a run and Cossack's Beauty (with Mr. Pote Hunt up) is not to be overlooked.

The Dunbar ́Stäble

has Gleneagles to send out here" and this candidate might cause an upset. Electric Star, it will be remembered ran second to Soldier of Britain in the Maidens and may run well, if started in the five fur- longs. I don't think any of the others need being "considered, ex- cept perhaps Sadko, who will go to the post with Mr. Harriman in the saddle. As a long shot, this pony can be recommended
