RACE MEETING AT MACAO

Sea View Wins Macao Derby

The Taishan carried a very large number of passengers yesterday to Macao where the Spring Race Meeting of the Macao Jockey Club was held.

. The feature of the day's 'racing was the excellent riding of Mr. P. P. Botelho, who won three races in a row and finished second in the Macao Derby un Potsdam. The last-named how- ever was disqualified for crossing. Earlier in the afternoon, King Salmon was disqualified for the same reason after winning the Spring Handicap (first section).

Lemberg won the Chairman's Cup over a mile and set up a course record of 2.022. The previous best time for a mile was 2.05.1.

DERBY SWEEP PAYS $17,571.

A special $2 sweep on the Macao Derby paid our 317,571 as first prize. In view of the disqualifica- tion of the second pony, the prizes on the second and third places have not yet been allocated.

OBITUARY

Miss Gertrude Sharpe

The funeral of Miss Gertrude Sharpe (49) took place yesterday at the Protestant Cemetery. Miss Sharpe who was a nurse to the child of Com. Barrett In Shanghai, was returning to England owing to -health, when she was ad- mitted to the Matlida Hospital two months ago. She died in the hos pital at 8 am, yesterday morning.

Rev. Baines conducted the ser vices at the graveside.

When Potsdam's name appeared among the starters in "The Trial Flate. punters backed the pony heavily. Harbour View set a ter- rific pace and entered the straight four lengths ahead of Potsdam and Armistice day. Mr. Botelho's mount put up a great spurt in the straight to win by two lengths. Armistice Day was third.

Harbour View ridden by Miss Betty Fair led at the start and coming in the straight had a clear three lengths on City of Shapghal,, but Miss Fearon, by dint of hard riding managed to pass the leader. Esk, for the second time in the afternoon; finished third.
