SHANGHAI STOCK MARKET
The tone of the Shanghai stock market was quite steady on last Wednesday, but business was onity of small dimensions: Interest for common stock equities was at a general interest being confined to standstill on the following day, the
debentures. The six million dollar debenture issue, offered to the pub- lic by the Centray Properties Ltd., was well supported, subscriptions totalling approximately eight and one half million dollars. During Saturday's session Explorations made some further headway, 3,- 000 shares being booked at 4.90 for March. Shanghal Tug pre- ferred shares had buyers at 13.50 each and Metropolitan Land “A” had buyers at 13.50 cash with sell- ers wanting 14.25. No significant changes took place on Monday:-} Bakerite "B" were placed at 14.50, :50 Hall and Holts shares were sue of 5 per cent Shanghai Fower booked at 37 for cash. The new ia- debentures had a weakening effect on the previous Issue. The general opinion was that as long, as this issue has not been absorbed the general trend of the debenture will lean to the easter side.

Asia Landa," Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. There was nothing of importance today, except for the strength of silver stocks due to continued belief that Congress will enact measures designed to raise the price of silver. The House Coinage Committee has reported favourably on two silver bills; one provides for the exchange of American agricultural exports for silver, while the other is a silver purchase measure providing for Government purchase of a maximum of 1,400,000,000 ounces of the metal at market price. The purchases would be made at the rate of 25,000,000 ounces monthly for six months and 10,000,000 ounces monthly after that until the 1926 price level had been restored.
Wheat; The market was dull and featureless until the last hour, when prices advanced on short covering and the announcement of a forthcoming ailver bill.
Cotton: The market was a small affair and the Trade is awaiting the action on the Bankhead Measure
Silver: The announcement of a silver policy rallied the market sharply near the close. After the close the news-ticker carried an item to the effect that Speaker Rainey expects the Bill to pass the House. Business Done: 570,000 shares.
