Friday, Mar. 10. Silver prices dropped 3/16 yes- terday for both deliveries, the quo- tations being 201 for Ready and 201 fon Forward. The drop was due to absence of support. China" sold. Speculators bought at the decline. The tone was steady. In America the rate was unchanged at 404 for Spot. The market was steady but dull. "

New York advices reported the opening rate at 5.07 and the clos- ing rate at 5.09. The market was

narrow.

Quiet, the tone was steady.

A small business was reported at 1/6 15/32 for June delivery. Later a small transaction was arranged at 1/6 7/16 for near delivery. The market closed with sellers at 1/8 13/32 March. 1/6 7/18 April and 1/6 15/32 May, buyers at 1/8 7/16 for near, 1/6 15/32 April and prob- ably 1/84 May.

There was nothing of importance today, except for the strength of silver stocks due to continued belief that Congress will enact, measures designed to raise the price of silver. The House Coinage Committee has reported favourably on two silver bills, one provides for the exchange of American agricultural exports for silver, while the other is a silver purchase measure providing for Goverdment purchase of a maximum of 1,400,000,000 ounces of the metal at market price. purchases would be made at the rate of £5,000,000 ounces monthly for six months and 10,000,000 ounces monthly after that until the 1920 prics level had been restored.s

Wheat: The market was dull and featureless until the last hour, when prices advanced on short covering aui the sunouncement of a forthcoming silver bill.

Cotton: The market was a small affair and the Trade is awaiting the action on the Bankhead Measure,

Silver: The announcement of a "silver policy rallied the market- sharply near the close. After the close the news-ticker carried an item to the effect that Speaker Rainey expects the Bill' to pass the House. Business Done: 370,000 shares.
