London Rumours
New York, Mar. 8. Rumours in London of an in- formal understanding between London and New York to keep the pound and dollar stable; while dis- credited in New York financial quarters, are largely attributed to the presence in London of Mr. Jacob Viner, Professor of Chicago, which is regarded as a preliminary to his acceptance of a position in
the U.S. Treasury.
Bankers here declared that under the present conditions no efforts to stabilise the pound and dollar is necessary.
Responsible city circles in Loa- don attach little importance to the recrudescence of rumours, though, as Mr. Josiah Stamp concluded in a speech at Stockholm con March 7, all opinions are converting towards a return of the gold standard at the proper time and under proper conditions-Reuter,
