RAIN!
YOUR VIEWS AND MINE I
A Weekly Column of Local Gossip
By The Scout “*
The attendance at Happy Valley during the past week must be new' low level record for an "An-"
nual Race Meeting in Hongkong. It was a great pity that after a spell of glorious weather we should get a week of intermittent rain and drizzle. to hold the races. which in many respects may be looked upon as one of the biggest social events of the year. The cash sweep figures were extremely small and the first prize in the Champions barely exceeded. half the amount paid to the winner last year. The only redeeming
·features, as a matter of fact, were
the big dividends that were paid out at regular intervals and the big fields which faced the starter in almost every race. There is just one more day's racing to-day, and it is to be hoped that" race- goers will be favoured with better luck, so far as the weather is con- cerned. than during the earlier days of the meeting.
