At the Tramway meeting held at the end of lut week, the Chair- man's speech created 2 very the impression. but favourable market.did not seem to respond as much as expected.
The announcement of the Elec- tric Company's dividend, increas- ing the bonus from 25 cents to 50 cents has given an impetus to these shares, of which fairly large parcels changed hands up to $779. With so many dividends of dif- ferent comparies falling due pre- sently, the market generally may be expected to receive greater sup- port.

The Canadian Government Bureau of Statistic; notwithstand- ing its rather formidable sounding name, has a peculiar way of get- ting rosa sections of the human side and particular characteristics of Canadians by the compilation di carefully complled Agures, For instance, It has found out that the people of the Dominion eat more eggs per capita than any other people, that they head the list as consumers of butter, that "their favourite feat is pork, and
so on.
phone Statistics for 1932": states the number of completed calls or the number of telephone con- versations in Canada for 1932 has estimated at 2,319.354,000 been local calls which, added to 27, 219,225 Jong-distance calls makes a total of 2,346,573,225 ‘or an average of 1851 calls per telephone during the year, or 223 calls per caplia. average This compares with

The report also discloses that there were 1,261,245. telephones in service in Canda In 1932. The density of 12.0 téléphones per 100 population was exceeded only by the United States. where in 1931 there were 15.8 telephones per 100 population. The density in 1931 in Denmark was 10.1, in New Zealand 99 and in Sweden. 9.1. Switzerland, Australia and Hawall had an average of 6.5, but rio other country had half as many telephones in proportion to popu, lation, and only four countries, the United States, France, India and the United Kingdom, had a greater total number of tele- phones.
