Vienna, February 15.

The Socialist workers' desperate but forlorn flight against Government forces appears to be nearing an end. Many workers are reported to have deserted the ranks of the insurgents and white flags have been hoisted on most of the fortified tenements in, which Socialists had en- trenched themselves. The rebels, however, are still hold- in the Vienna ing out in a large tenement Goethehof' district of Floridsdorf, but the block is entirely surround- ed by troops.

1

An official communique assert that the clearing up action will be brought to a successful conclusion in the course of Thursday, but reports from other sources in- dicate that the insurrectionists are still putting up stiff re sistance in many quarters and that Dr. Dolfuss' appeal to them to surrender seems unlikely to meet with his anti- cipated response.

Military re-inforcements, are on their way to the Capital from Salzburg and Tyrol.

According to unconfirmed rumours, the Southern Rail- way has been blown up in several places by insurgents and latest reports state that 2,000 well armed rebels have assembled on the bill Laaer Berg South of Vienna.

Socialist leaflets have been distributed bere urging the workers to resist to their uttermost and announcing an early arrival of 40.000 "Schectzbuendlers" members of the semi-military socialist organisation from the provinces in order to come to the assistance of the beleaguered quarters.

Cardinal Archbishop Innitzer has issued a pressing, ap- peal to all Austrians irrespective of parties to put an end to the bloodshed.--Transocean Kuo Min.
