2-PIECE DRESS THAT WEIGHS ILB.

Model In New Fabric

A novel early spring, two-plece. dress, weighing only 1lb crested a sensation at the first dress "ade of 1934, held in the Wi

by a renowned Paris hou -

en

It was made of one of the warmest materials-homespun. It has taken years to discover the secret of making homespuns 89 light as silks and cottons, and this was the first model to be design- ed in the new fabric.

The two-piece included a long- sleeved frock, reaching to the fa- hionable point just below a short, coat. Three and a quarter yards were used for the frock, and less than a yard was required for the coat. The homespun only weighs 4oz per yard..

For the first time in the his tory of dress, women will wear frocks and ensembles made of coloured flax. Until now it has been impossible to dye flax, which has been used very little. This season it will be most fashionable; as it has all the advantages of linen, to which it is related, and yet is uncrushable."

Several flax models were in the newest shade, “famme ardente,”. ? cross between tomato and tan- gerine,

Miss Naylor's

Miss Naylor, importer of dresses, has just received a shipment of exquisite evening gowns. There are some quilted chiffons, and, quite the latest, in various shades and sizes. She is also showing aome smart afternoon and street frocks. The prices too are most" reasonable, which makes it so much easier for the average shop- per. One could almost afford two, ' and with the races riot far off, when one wants to look their smartest.

Gordon's

The well-dressed woman is always looking for smart footwear. Gordon's have a varied stock in all sizes and makes. Their selec- tion of gloves too is worthy of considération. They have a fine selection of hostery fri both plain and .net, in a vast assortment of colours, including shades of tan. and also various tones in gray."

Malzee's

Malzee's slogan le, "always some- thing new at Malzee's" and that is only too true. They have just unpacked a consigment of cotton lace dresses, and silk and linen suits. Delightful new cocktail hats in metalic laces. Novelty jewellery to match any outfit. They are also having a sale on all winter hats, clearing to make room for new spring models."

Lane, Crawford's

Lane, Crawford's are showing a new shipment of dresses which have been ordered expressly for the forthcoming races. Noticed a beauty in brown crepe Romaine, and quite the latest. Others that would appeal to any one who is seeking something up the minute is in Crepe Marocaine with the new bishop's collar, this can be.. had in a pretty shades of green. Another has a dainty sleeve hay- ing a square, effect. this is in brown and most bewitching.

There was a delightful evening gown in the new French matt satin with the new cowi" back. this is in blue. There is also a large variety of hats to match all „the above mentioned gowns.,, The

latest in tegal strans.

dress of black-ribbed slik, had a blouse of the softest lame. Another, of black shadow lace over a draped silk underskirt, possessed two fame popples fas- tened at the knee at an unusual angle. A third was a symphony in Nile green and gold lame--a stately dress that would possess virtue for the traveller, since it would pack well A black velvet with an interesting black velvet beautiful sleeves of spotted net.

I had a talk with Jane Fergus- son, friend of all full-figured women. It was only in the early part of year that she opened her dress salon at Finnigan House, Clifford-street, in order to make gowns exclusively for women who are not so slim I confess I was awed by the way in which she spoke of fitting women with six- t7-inch hip lines, but she told me quite gally that she could, if ne- cessary, make a becoming frock for a woman with the dimen- sions of the Albert Hall,"

The models" she showed me were pleasing because, she had taken pains to avoid that mat- ronly dulness from which: young, stout women.:so often have to suffer when they buy:" outsize " `gowns, and she had provel that heavy-weights, can look as fas- hionable and as elegantly clad as their slim sisters. jam.

of furs. These skins have been made into coats of all types from the Afteen guinea hard-wearing and the twenty-five guinea squir- rel, to the more expensive minks and dyed ermines. While they possess the essential features of modern models they have been designed to ensure comfort and durability.

The thought of Christmas gift buying - becomes more insistent dally. Those in search of articles which show a discerning choice yet are inexpensive, are not like- ly to leave empty-handed the salons of Jay's of Regent-sireet. In addition to garments such as travelling coats, lingerie and evening frock there are handbags ot exclusive design for day and evening wear...

I admire the thumb pochette In gold or silver kid that has a new finish. It can be obtained with an initial clasp and costs 378. 6d. The suede belt with cry. stal rings, which can be made to. individual measurements, is going to be a favourite present, and there is a most feminine ciga- rette-case covered in real petit. polat.

Crossing Regent-street, I went to Dickins. and Jones and visit- ed the Persian Bazaar. The effect on leaving the lift on the third floor is not unlike that of stepp- ing from the gangway of a cruis- ing steamer in an Eastern port and wandering through the by- ways, where the bazaars are.

Beal Love-Brids

Port of the Persian Bazaar has been allotted to the display of cards and calendars, toys and games. In contrast to the furry dogs, there are real love-birds, in many shades from yellow to turquoise, and the saltswoman gives direction' with regard to feeding,

Peraia, land of cypresses and gazelles, is well represented in foggy London just now, for there is a special sale of Persian rugs on the ground floor of Harvey Nichols, of Knightsbrige.

Those who are feeling rug- minded "—and Persian rugs that reflect deep, rich colours make uncommon gifts will be glad to learn that for one week, beginni ing to-day, there is to be a ten per cent, reduction in this de- partment. - I was interested to see saldie-bags included in this sale. Onct they were used as sad- dles for camel riders, and for those in search of small rugs they will prove most suitable.

Which type of writing-case ap- peals more to the assiduous let- ⚫ter-writer. I wonder the fami- llar fitted attaché-case or the new flat leather case. I noticed both on the ground floor at War- ing and Gillow, in Oxforl-street; they were included in a sale of Knight-articles.. that were to be bought

Bo many who are given the choice of Christmas gifts decide to have new fur coats. Ujhely, of 14. Brompton-road, sbridge, tells me that although fur Drices are rising, this firm is in the fortunate, position of be
