One of the most remarkable "sets" ever constructed for a fl has been built at the British In- ternational studio at Elstree for

use in the film "Contraband" in which David Manners, Greta Nis- sen, Clifford Mollison, Hugh Wake- feld, and Camilla Horn have the chief roles.

It is a full sized replica of в Bri- tish Destroyer, and every detall has been worked out to perfcrian by Art Director Clarence-Elder uri. der whose supervision" it was - ected inside the large BIP. s; adio. Visitors to the studio this week have asked why it is necessary at such expense and trouble, to build a destroyer when there is such a fine Britkh Navy which might well be proud of a little

It is newa, too, that the incom- parable Katharine Hepburn plays Jo as the role has never been.. played before, that hers is an un- forgetably brilliant performance and that once and for all she de-. Soltely proves how unlimited and effortless an actress she really is. It is further news that every sup- porting actor and actress in the cast gives a finely wrought cha- racterization.""

"Little Wowen" to-day may seem painfully sweat to some accustom- ed to the more two-fisted, hard- hitting, cynical portraits of rac- keteers; modern women; and, foot- ball coaches that the screen has been offering, but it is greatly to the credit of the adaptors, that they have reduced the novel's cloying sentimentality to a mini- Lum, so that the film's charm'andi appeal to the heartstrings are never annoying.

It has a restrained charm and appeal this Little Women." It doesn't probe deeply into its characterizations; it simply presents their humorously and tenderly and with completely understandable and forgivable sentimentality. Moreover, the re-creation on the screen of the Music Hall of life in a small New England city in the latter days of the civil war and in New York during the tragic, era which followed represents a superb job of building again a world of the past.

All the Human Qualities Retained All of Jo's adventures are here. see her shy attempts to write her bittersweet romance with the nephew of her wealthy next- door neighbour, her heartbreak at Seth's death, her journey to New York to. forget her romance, her neeting with the German profes sor, her return home and her eventual happiness when the kindly professor comes to tell her of his intensions.

You see, it is all there human and immensely ikable. For the cast there can be nothing but unqualified praise.
