Favoured with glorious weather, the Fanling Hunt and Race Club held their January race meeting under ideal conditions yesterday and there was a large attendance at the course.

The main event of the day provided a keen race be rid- tween Festival Eve and The Gadwall. The latter, den by Mr. Hope, won by a short head in a close finish, Mr. Hope started in three other races and finished second on each occasion.

In the race for ladies, Miss L. Fearon, riding her own pony, No Fear, won easily from Glen Shee" ridden by Miss Scott Harston.

Messrs. N. Deitz and Y. T. Fung made the over the sticks, and both were placed.

All thirteen entries for the open-Winchester Stag finishing second270; $2.30; 86.20. tog race went to the post, but only four ponies were in the pic ture at all Mackinlay took The Quiail to the front and kept him there until the field entered the straight when he was passed by Celerity, Gallant Fox and.. Zephyr all of whom had been lying very Gallant handy most of the way.

Fox looked as though he was go- ing to make a good race of it with Celerity, but had to go under by two lengths. Zephyr was two and half lengths behind the second.

Burgomaster Wins

Burgomaster and Duke of Milan ran neck and neck all the way round in the second race over a mile and a half steeplechase. The winner was better on the flat while Duke of Milan made up on the jumps. The two took the last hurdle together, and Burgomaster being better on the fat, won. White Heather finished third, not being good enough for the leaders, but on the other hand proving too good for White Stars (4th) and Esculado (5th).

Close Finish

The Gadwall ridden by Mr. Hope put up a very good race in the Sheung Shul Hurdle Race to win by a head from Festival Eve. These two ponies, together with Orlando, led the field, and gradual- ly drew ahead After mile Orlando had had enough, but stay-
