A LOOK AT THE

OUTSTANDING PONIES TO RACE HERE

Candidates for Annual Race Meeting

RECORDS MAY ALL BE LOWERED

(BY

"MORNING DEW”)

Following the article last week on the Derby pros. "pects, I shall deal briefly this week with the new Austras lian ponies that are to race here for the first time in February at the Annual Race Meeting,

The consensus of opinion among those who have are bead and studied the newcomers is that they shoulders better than the Australian ponies we have seen racing here for the past three years.

Their training performances, in some instances, have been staggering and it looks very much as if the existing records will all go by the board.

The whole batch is of a

good class, and that being

he case, the Australian pories of former seasons will be

in a bad way indeed when ney come to race against the 1934 ponies.

At an auction of race ponies held t Happy Valley yesterday two pories belonging to the late Mr. Ho Leung were sold.

He has shown quite good work in his training gallops and that probably account- ed for the brisk bidding yesterday: Beginning with a bid of 850 the price went up by leaps and reached. bounds until $700 was

A grey grin (D. 138) was the object of furiher brisk bidding and severat, would be purchasers com- peted for it and not until 8820 was reached did the bidding cease. Another grimin, a bay, fetched 880 and then The Plover was put up: getting $55 while Banjolina fetched $10.

to be" one of the best of the new when the Annual Race Meet this stable are of particular Inter- i

The racing community will be particularly glad to hear this, for in the past the Dunbar" stable has been absolutely out of luck with regard to Australian Princess Angeline and ponies should prove of some compensa- tion to them for their continued interest in Australians. There is gainsaying the fact that this pony is also very good She, however, moved far better a few weeks back than she does to-day, but there is no doubt that she will be fit and ready by the end of February.

The biggest and best British picture ever made.

I said it was the best British picture. I have weeks ago seen it again and am more than ever of that opinion. This film demonstrates to the world that at least the Gaumont-British studio is fully organised for even the biggest film production job.

I have seen a British picture which can be praised, with- out dishonest or misguided patriotism, to the skies. WAS A SPY" will be recommended to everyone I know.
