Ten years ago Professor Ogden and his fellow workers in Cam- bridge commenced this simplifica tion of the English language, and the new form which emerged is called Basic English. The chief secret of this amazing result is that all superfluous verb-forms have been discarded. Instead of the 4,000 in common use in Stand- ard English, Baate employs only 18 in their old form.
