WEEKLY REPORT
The omens for 1934 would seem to be "set-fair", if the trend of the market in the past week may be accepted as a true index for the coming months.
Since the commencement of business on Tuesday, there has been a steady absorption of the better class of securities, with
to prices slowly responding the demand, but whilst the scale of
business transacted cannot be said to have been heavy, it was, never theless, not quite as thin as in ro- cent weeks.
The rises to be noted are chiefly in Wharves, Hotels, Hongkong Lands, Eongkong Trams, Lights, Electrics and Dairy Farms, and the closing rates all-round are about the best for the week.

Commodity Index. Aria Lands, Limited, has received the following report form their Now York correspondents, E. A. Pierco & Co. The President's Budget messige was the main topic of discussion and indicated large future Government borrowings, which are arpected to total $10,000, 00,000 in the next six months, and indicated a large increase in the National Debt over the next eighteen months. The speech revived talk of inevitable inflation and we think this weke responsible for the strength of the market this afternoon.
Wheat: A thin market. Early in the day the market was wenk in sympathy with securities andì disappointment at the President's touch- Later values.firmed on the Budget ing the money situation vaguely. announcement.
Cotton: Lower cables brought additional opening liquidation. The set-back attracted a good volume of trade buying, prices gradually improv- ing and closing at the highest level since last September.
Silver: Futures were easier at the opening. With the Trade and London buying on the decline the market became more active and the undertone was distinctly firmer in the early afternoon. The Sterling exchange rally helped the covering movement.
