TRAINING

HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, JANUARY 4, 1934.

GALLOPS

Soldier of China Clocked on the Course

(BY "MORNING DEW')

Below, will be found the training times clocked at Happy Valley. Work was on the slow side and interest in the times lies in the fact that Soldier of China, a Derby griffin of whom much is expected, galloped over a mile and a quarter. His effort was closely followed by several big owners who were at the rails yesterday.

Prima Donna went over a mile and a quarter and the time for the last mile will be found below. The gallop was quite a good one.

Chief Seattle, King's Fancy and King's Warden all finished under the 30 seconds over the last quarter.

The subscription griffins were particularly slow and Bran Tub was the only one to do a mile under 2 minutes 30 seconds.

In the Australian class. Able Amazon did a very good gallop over a mile and a, half, finishing impressively. The last half mile, it will be noted, was covered in shade over, 59 seconds.

Interport Trial Match Won By Whites

The first of a series of Interport Trtal matches was played yester- day on the Hong Kong F.C. ground, the Whites winning by the odd goal in three. The game sfarted late, three changes being made from the advertised teams. Ho Ka Keung," A. V. Gosano and BGosano being absent from the | "Bines,” Leonard partnered 8. Strange at: back and Aŭ Kim Fung lead the attack Shepherd came out late in the first half to complete the team.

„Owing to such heavy matches being played during the holidays. the standard of play was not of une best. Each team helding three centre-halves in the middle line, the respective, attacks, found 10 difficult to make headway. Coubey was kept busy during the first half, Tay Quee Liang testing him with several shots, while E Strange was always dangerous. The Blues missed a couple of easy chances, Tam and Ridley shooting, over with only Wong to beat. At the interval there was no score.

Play was a little more étrenuous in the second half, the Blues max- ing a much better show, They had the misfortune to lose Chan- nings through leg injury about halfway through the second half. With about ten minutes to go, the score sheet was still. biánk.

Good work by Blake opened up a chance for E. Strange and he shot into the net to open the score. The Whites increased their lead in a couple of minutes, E. Strange shooting in from the penalty line and the ball shot into the net well out of Combey's reach.

Elliott seemed a certain scorer when he took a pass from Yeung Shui Yick, but shot wide from in- side the goal area. Just on time, Ridley secured" from the right and sent in a shot that beat Wong

Ving.

The teams were:~~~~

Whites-Wong wing: Allan,

Morrison: Beltrao, Leung Wing Chui; Yeung Shui Yick, Tay Quee Liang. Elliott, E. Strange and Blake.

Blues-Combey: 8. Strange, D. Leonard; Podmore, Pardoe, Chan- nings: Shepherd, Tam Kong Pak, Au Kim Ming. Ridley and Bick- ford.

Club Beat Army With Eight Men

The Club only turned out with' eight men in their pockey mawa against the Army at King's Park yesterday, but in spite

of tais

they won the comfortable mur gin of six goals to one.

Taking the field with three men short, the Club played only four. forwards. They had three: "backs and no goal-keeper and this ar rangement seemed to work splen- didly for they kept up a pressure all through the first half. Alex- ander-Sinclair, the Navy player,

scored the first goal for them and this was followed up by another by Divett. These two players add- ed a good each before the interval. came along...

The Army were outplayed though it must be said that they put up some good defensive work. They only broke through once when their inside right found the zet with a hard drive. Towards the end of the first half Divett had to leave the field owing to an injury.

With Divett away injured, the Club started that second half with only seven men and this time play was more even. Binclair scored, another goal and about ten minutes from the end: Divett re- turned to the field and he added another goal for the Club making the score 6-1 in their favour.
