First Words

Every situation likely to arise in the life of the new arrival was considered, the Anal 1st contain- ing some 20 situations in all. Miss Swenson and other members of the com- mittee gave the list a unique de- monstration. For weeks, outside of their homes, they restricted themselves to the 300 words" and they succeeded in going where they wished to go, buying what they wished to buy and learning what they desired to know.

The list of the 300 words most frequently used in everyday life reveals some; odd things about speech. "With," since it may signify either "accompany' or "by
