In anticipation of fighting the evacuation of foreigners from the interior of Fukien has commenced. The first group, compris ing Catholic fathers and American Methodists, arrived here to- day from Yenping-Reuter.

Following the statement on Ireland, made by the Dominions' Secretary, Mr. J. H. Thomas, in the House of Commons yester- day. Mr. George Lansbury, leader of the opposition, asked whe- ther the other members of the British Commonwealth were to be consulted. ***
Mr. Thomas replied that the Government was determined not to close the door of honourable settlement. The Government did not desire to drag other Dominions into the dispute which ori- ginated because the Irish Free State repudiated Treaty "obliga- tions.
