LAST WEEK'S GAMES

AND NOTES ON SOME TEAMS

Before I go on with my notes to-day I want to clear inisunderstanding, in regarding the match between the Indian Recreation Club and the Navy two weeks ago. This was a league fixture, and not, as some people think. a friendly." „I have this from the Secretary of the League who says that the match had been officially reported as a league engagement, and in this connection, he has re- quested me to remind club secretaries that it would be very helpful to him if they would report their matches fromptly.

So far as their batting is con- time at the nets, and quite rightly cerned, they have F. K. Lee, Ernie Zimmern, Francis Zimmern and C. W. ERAIGENGOWER COLLAPSE

The dismal way in which the Craigsngover Cricket Club batsmen failed before the I. R. C. attack in their league encounter last Satur day came as a big surprise to me for 1 fully expected them to give their old rivals a good run for their money, Frank Pereira and A. R. Miou, the IRC. opening bowlers, were in excellent form with the ball and bowling unchanged, they got their opponents out for a paltry 99 runs. S. A. Ismail kept wickets excellently for not only did he catch three men for the fast bowler, but he did not allow a single bye to get past him. And this brings one to the point where a little doubt may be expressed regarding the I.R.C.'s chances of annexing championship honours. Their bowling is strong enough to get their opponents out for a reasonable score every time (and. I must include Ismail in the bowling), but what of their bat- ting?

THE OTHER TEAMS ...

What with the interports stretch- ing over a fortnight, I must confess I have not seen much of the other teams and for that reason, I pro- pose to deal with them next week after I have had a chance of seeing what they can do. Kowloon, the Army, Hong Kong Cricket Club and the Navy all have strong teams. in fact I do not remember any season during the past five or six years when so many strong teams are all fighting for championship honours. The University also, mast not be forgotten, but they are far too busy with examinations just now to bother about cricket. The way they won the first division shield last year, when the general opinion was that "they would never do it" is still fresh in memory.

TO-MORROW'S MATCHES

The Club make the journey to King's Park to-morrow when they play their first division league match against the Navy. It should be a good game, perhaps ending in a draw. There are also a number of friendlies, the most interesting of which should be the Press-Indians that my brother affair. I note scribe, Mr. R. Abbit" is going to lead the Press side and I take this opportunity of wishing him the best of luck. I think it is a good idea to run a Press cricket team, and as SCARON progresses, matches the might be arranged with other Club as well. I see Gordon Burnett is not playing for the Press-I take it that it is because he is engaged in a league fixture for Kowloon Cricket Club. ··
