Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Turner,
JAPANESE TRADE COMPETITION
Mr. Runciman's View
Sir Ernest Petter, speaking at the anual dinner of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in Lon- don, referred to the
meance of Japanese competition,
Japan, he said, sent into this country in 1932 three million dozen pairs of rubber shoes and 25 mill- ion electric lamps.
Mr. Walter Runciman, President of the Board of Trade, said if Sir Ernest's figures were correct it was a wonder that everyone was not wearing rubber shoes.
"I take Japanese competition very seriously," he said, but do not let us lose our sense of propor tios."
وامر
아
He said we were establishing ourselves on a more economic basis than we had been since the war, He did not like competition based on low wages, with which we did not intend t compete, but ho hoped we should overcome that by ingenuity and enterprise.
