NIGHT STAR SETS NEW RECORD

Australian Sprint

Sprint Event Provides Thrilling Finish

BRECHIN AND VIGILANCE WIN THE “DOUBLES”

(BY MORNING DEW").

Night Star, the Champion Australian pony, which was beaten out of a place in the Freemantle St. Leger, thoroughly redeemed himself on Saturday when he won the Nullah Plate (five furlongs) in the record time of 1 minute 6.3 seconds, accounting for the best of A Class Australian ponies. The finish was one of the most exciting seen on the course for many a day.

66

Favourites shared honours with outsiders during the afternoon, and on the whole there was good sport provid ed. Lady Peel's candidate, Lucy Glitters, started a hot favourite for the last race, but could only finish second.

WHITE STAR

Whit Butterfly was 2 great disappointment In the first race, for in the field of nine he got off eigth when the gate went up, and never got into the picture. Fiving Boy also suffered from a bad start and was 50 many lengths behind that he never came up with the field Meanwhile Swalé jumped into the lead closely fol- lowed by Iron Grey and Now's The Time with Bold General and Charming Face well up. Swale led into the straight when Iron Grey drew levél with him on the outside. The latter however tried, rapidly and when Now's The Time came along with a big rush at the end, he had no difficulty in accounting for Iron Grey," but Swale stalled him off and seven- tually won by a neck.

The Big Sprint Eight out of the nine ponies jentered faced the starter in the Ave furlongs for "A" Class Au- tralians. When the gate went up

Mr. Frost surprised the experts by coming away with a terrific spurt on The Panther to win by half a length from Ajax, both of whom passed King Salmon in the straight.
