COLOUR FILMS
Claims For British Invention
London, Oct. 28.
I have just seen a demonstra tion of a new British system of colour cinematography which gives promising results.
It is the invention of Mr. D.. Daponte. who bas given much study to stereoscopy, and Mr. S J. Cox, an expert in slowmotion photography.
It is difficult to apply colour
photography to fast-moving ob- Jects Colours in most processes
tend to overlap, or "fringe," and no new process will be effective which involves heavy additional
expense.
Messrs. Daponte, and Cox claim that all these drawbacks have
been overcome. The two reels I saw were all made at-Joinville, Paris, by a French film concern said to be interested in the pasal- bilities of the invention. They show Spanish dancers in gorgeous colours, a ballet from & Paris night resort, views of the Seine and scenes indoors.
The colours certainly do not "fringe," and except for a grass bluer than any in Kentucky, they are sufficiently convincing. There is, too, a stereoscopic effect.
The definition was not as good as in the best black-and-white screen work

Mr. Cox tells me that there is possibility that "Chu Chin Chow," to be produced shortly by the Gaumont-British tim Corporation," will be made in colour, by this process. He states that normal tim is used, and that the only new apparatus required is a "cine-colour" tens for camera and projector.
When I asked whether film pro- ducers would be charged a royal- ty, he said he was not sure, but that in any case the cost of a. picture would be only "fractional- ly" increased.
