They say an Englishman can talk of nothing but, cricket and the weather, Which will have leading place this week?.......... Don't expect cricket from me--I should -hate to tell you just what I think of it while the Interporters ars with us but I must say a few words about the weather. For on Sunday, soaking wet on Mon- day, biting wind on Tuesday, and probably rain.. hail, sleet, AND show on Wednesday. One might as well be in England! I know cricket is traditionally, played, on sleepy summer afternoons: -- with. deck chairs under shady trees for the fair spectators, and the only sound that of bees humming but all I can remember myself is sitting, mackintosh clad and-hun- ched under an umbrella, waiting": for the tarpaulina to be rolled back while the umpires stroll out to inspect the pitch!
SATURDAY'S MEETING
One blessing, it was fine for the Races. But I have come to the conclusion that racing is as tire some a game as golf; every time you feel you are getting better you have a really bad day, just to discourage you. Saturday was certainly one for me. I arrived too late to back my first "Hunch's (Rosy Morn) and the the paid a hundred odd dollars wasted five dollars on Don on a stable tip, and another five on Spotted Butterfly. I meditated between Stickypast and Helter Skelter and backed the wrong one. In fact, my only lucky guess was a horse that paid 85,90, bless it 80 helpful,

LOVELY CHINESE DRESSES There were so many people at the Races despite the many counter: attractions, and I never in my life saw such lot of pretty Chinese Woman at the same time. The dresses they wore were the last word in chic, and the way in which they carry themselves is eloquent testimony to the fact that Miss China of to-day is not the same person as her sister of, say 1923.
It took me some time to decide who wore the most attractive dress but I finally gave my vote to: HAPPY FACES.
