THE CRICKET INTERFORT

I must first of all congratulate H. Owen Hughes on being given e honour of leading Hong Kong in the interport cricket matches against Shanghai and Malaya, and I want also to wish him the best of luck.

·

Owen Hughes, as my brother cribe sald in yesterday's issue, is an experienced interporter, and though this "will be the first time he will play as captain, it is felt he will more than justify the confidence placed in him by the Selection Committee.

is a well-balanced one though it The team that has been selected

was somewhat of & surprise to see Hayward dropped. It was generally thought that be would be chosen as captain, but

here again la another instance of the futility making any prophe- sies regarding the selection of any cricket team.

Retiring almost immediately after the practice match on Mon- day, the Selection Committee were behind closed doors for well over an hour before they finally decid- ed on the team. They have cho-
