NAVY DAY

COMPANY

A spirit of conviviality characterised the annual Hallowe'en Dinner of the Scottish Company, Hongkong. Volunteer Defence Corps, at Volunteer Headquarters last night. There was a very large number of guests and with a good programme of entertainment coupled with the lavish hospitality of the hosts, a very enjoyable time was spent by all.

Capt. H. R. Forsyth, in proposing the health of the guests, reviewed the activities of the Scottish Company during the past year and took the opportunity of cou gratulating Mr. A. L. Shields on being elected Chieftain of St. Andrew's Society.

Mr. Shields, replying later on behalf of the guests," voiced the hope, that every young Scotsman will try and join both the Scottish Company and St. Andrew's Society.

The hall was very tastefully de- corated with flags and greenery and the emblem of the Scottish Company was prominently display- ed over the Chairman's seat.

Those who were seated at the official table were as follows: Capt. HR Forsyth, Col L. G. Bird, Mr. A. L. Shields, Major B. L. Dowbiggin, Mr. A. S. Mac- kichan, Mr. J. W. C. Bonnar, Mr. W. H. E. "It is almost unnecessary for me to emphasize our welcome to Colonel Bird, our Commandant. If he ever stays away from Hollowe'en Dinner, he will be very sadly miss- ed. His enthusiasm is unbounded and he is part and parcel of this institution and we assured him of (Applause)" our continued loyalty and backing.

The Chairman next welcomed Jutant, and then called upon the Captain Wilkinson, the new Ad- Company to drink to the health of the guests.
